At the request of a friend on the Cricut Message Board, I am posting the directions and pictures of a project I made.

Name Frame

I started with a frame that had inside dimensions of 9 ½ x 12 ½

I covered the insert with light blue cardstock and added the 1 ½ inch border strips. I did the long sides first and filled in with scraps, then added the side pieces to cover it.

I used Pooh and Friends to cut Pooh, Piglet and the sign.

Pooh was cut at 4 inches, shadow was a mustard color and body a lighter yellow. {I picked the closet I had to the color of Pooh} The honey pot was tan and I chalked it to for definition. I used a red textured cardstock for his sweater vest. I colored his nose black and added some details to his face as well. I used a light yellow pencil on his ears—this is very hard to see in the picture.

Piglet was cut at 3 inches with two shades of pink, darker was the shadow. I again colored the face for definition. The little outfit Piglet has on was a pink print that is quite similar to the name cut out.

Sign was cut at 3 inches, tan with a dark brown shadow and green grass. I chalked the sign with a medium brown to bring out the lettering. I cut off the bee and rounded the corner of the shadow and added a butterfly button on that edge.

I cut the tree from Heritage at 5 ½ inches—cut two top layers, one brown and one light green. The shadow was a darker green. I cut the branches off the light green and layered it over the brown before putting it on the dark green shadow. I used textured cardstock for this.

Strip of grass was cut from the same dark green as tree and grass on the sign. I cut it at 10 inches using Paper Dolls for Everyday. When I put it on I had it overlap the plaid frame piece just a smidgen. I slipped the tree trunk down behind it.

The name was cut at 2 ½ inches with Pooh Font. I used a two-tone pink print paper.

I feel this could be adapted for almost occasion or theme. Have fun designing one for yourself or a friend. The original idea came from a Stampin’ Up workshop I went to where we made a Thanksgiving one with a 5 inch by 12 inch frame. I made several as Christmas gifts with a Christmas theme.

I am hosting a vintage Christmas Swap on the Cricut Message Board. Each group has two Christmas songs attached to it and the idea is to create a vintage ATC using some part of the song--title, phrase, word or a feeling or memory you have about the song. Not as easy as it sounds. This is my design for Group 3 and I used the third verse of" It Came upon a Midnight Clear." It is quite outside the box but the idea came to me immediately when I saw the picture.

This picture is from the Siege of Bastogne as part of the larger Battle of the Bulge. The siege lasted from 20 December to 27 December when the American forces were relieved by elements of General George Patton's Third Army. My father turned 21 on Christmas Day that year and celebrated by dropping supplies for Patton’s troops.

Again, I think this may be a little outside the box. This ATC is titled, "In Memory of Aunt Suzanne" and is a picture of what is left of Suzanne Pineau Gaudet's home today. I spend a good deal of time with relatives who are located on the next lot over and have always referred to this old house as Aunt Suzanne's even though she was not actually my aunt. We do, however; have a family connection as her niece married my grandmother's cousin. I have heard many stories about the good times that were enjoyed in an earlier time in this home so when Kay posted this swap, I immediately thought of using a picture of the old home located in Ebbsfleet, Prince Edward Island. The picture underneath is an artist rendering of how the home probably looked when the Gaudet family lived there.

Just before I left for the cottage I signed up for 4 groups in a new swap. I came up with ideas, printed what I needed, cut and embossed some items and chose my papers and embellishments. I figured the cutting would be no problem as I brought along my laptop and baby bug. Well, laptop is out being fixed and may need a new harddrive which meanns DS will be gone until I get back home to relaod it and get a new activation #--of course this is the first year I left all the back-up disks at home as well as the booklets and overlays for the cartridges. I was without any computer fro 10 days but now have a friend's while she is in England for 3 weeks. I have the trial version of DS so I can cut with George and see what is on other carts and which key to push on the keypad. Really miss DS for the resizing etc but managed to finish these 4 groups with just a few changes.

This ATC is for Group 1 of the vacation themed swap hosted by TexasTam. I knew immediately what I wanted to do for this one and with some careful pre-planning, it turned out as I had pictured it. It was a little time consuming as each piece had to be cut individually on the paper cutter before being fitted together as a little book.

Vacation ATC--Boothbay Harbor, Maine

I had what I had thought was a great image to use for this project--a black and white photo of the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club around 1900. The crowd on the dock included women with the long dresses and parasols. The harbor was filled with boats of all kinds. I worked for over 2 days trying to come up with an ATC that I liked and nothing I tried seemed to work so I finally scrapped it and started over. The ATC below is the result. The movie Carousel was filmed on location there starting in August of 1955 and the image is a poster featuring one of the locations-- Brewer's Wharf, a local family-owned business that provided marine services and ran a small shore dining room. The family was paid $500 for the use of the buildings. Carousel was the first movie I was taken to see because my aunt was an extra in a couple of the scenes and my grandparents owned the wharf. The ATC represents summer vacation in Boothbay Harbor to me and hope also to everyone else in the swap.

Crazy Cat Quilt or Cat Crazy Quilt--LOL!

This is a quilt I just finished for my oldest granddaughter. She picked out the cat material and I fussy cut the six-sided centers for the squares and framed each using the same six solid colors. I cut strips from any materials I had in my stash that co-ordinated with the centers and finished each square that was on a base of muslin. There are 35 squares--five across and seven down with a narrow first border of dark purple and a wider second border of light purple and then bound with the dark purple.

This was completerly different from what I had in mind which was browns and vintage--LOL!! I was browsing through the Splitcoasters website looking at the ideas and techniques when I came across this inking technique for the background. When I looked at the posted projects a card caught my eye and I shamelessly scraplifted the design for this ATC. I used shades of purple and blue on light blue paper to make the background by stamping it all over with inked saran wrap that had been crumpled. I made two sheets--one I put through the Cricut and cut the blanks that I stamped the flowers on. The other I stamped with butterflies using the same purple ink. I cut out the butterflies, mounted them on dark purple and cut around them to have a border. I put two colors of purple stickles on the butterflies and let them dry over night before attaching them to the front. A purplish jewel in the top left corner was the last item added.

This is for Group 1 in the 2+2 Swap. I titled it Priscilla after my ancestor Priscilla Mullins Alden! Techniques used were layered cut and embossing. That is drywall mesh in the background!! I used Vivelle paper for her hair.

I had such fun using EDPD and PDDU making a card for DH yesterday that I made another one today for my "adopted" son who is a combat engineer in the Canadian forces. The inside says " Have a safe and happy new year!" I had to find a picture of the camo they wear and print it to cut the shirt and pants. The beret and rifle came for Stand and Salute.

I think I am in love with the 2 PD carts!!

A Non-traditional Christmas Card

I made this card for my husband who is a hunter and has a number of clothing items with the various Realtree designs. I cut the doll with the Paperdolls cartridge at 5 " and then cut the needed clothes to match. I had to locate a picture of the fabric with Google and print it to use for the clothing. I also printed a page of bark and cut the tree which I popped up with foam dots. The card was made from gray cardstock; finished size 5x7. I chalked the top with 2 different blue chalks for the sky and the bottom with brown and green to resemble the ground. The chalks were blended with a kleenex--nothing fancy!! The inside is rather plain with the sentiment printed in green on tan paper with a chalked edge. I am quite sure he will like it!

Another Sneak Peek--Christmas/Holiday Tags

I was in a Christmas/Holiday tag swap hosted by Caitlynsmommy aka Crystal. I participated in eight groups--several of my tags are pictured below. Some of the pics are before I glued them down when I was getting an opinion from JeanP. Some had additional elements added but I never took pictures of the finished tags. The ones that follow from top to bottom are child's tag, two for green, red and white, other than Christmas [I chose birthday] and blue, silver and white.

Altered Picture Frame

This was the first time I altered a wooden frame and I am quite pleased with the results.

Decorative Tile

Here is a tile I made using a picture printed on tissue paper. I added the date after the modpodge was dry.

This one is meant to be decorative but with several coats of modpodge or a spray sealer, it could be used as a coaster but the absorbtion properties of the tile would be lost. Here is the link to the directions:

I did find out that it worked better to cut the tissue paper smaller then the full size of the cardstock I was using to put through the printer and tape it securely on all sides. I left it attached to the cardstock to trim it as well.

Sneak Preview of an ATC for the Mix and Match Swap

I mixed weather with an advertising slogan, "When it rains it pours!"

I printed two for each ATC and carefully cut out the little girl with her umbrella

and stuck her on with pop dots.
